FAQ’s
What does AGS Enterprises do, and who do you serve?
We help small and mid-sized distribution and manufacturing companies get more out of their accounting and ERP software. We have been doing this since 1989, primarily across New York and the surrounding region. Most of our clients come to us because they have outgrown QuickBooks or a legacy system like BusinessVision, DacEasy or ACCPAC Plus+ and they need a practical path forward. We implement and support Spire Systems and Adagio, and we stay involved after go-live to make sure things actually run the way they should.
What is Spire Systems and what does it do?
Spire is a business management and accounting platform built for small to mid-sized distributors and manufacturers. It handles inventory, purchasing, sales orders, financials, and reporting in one system. What makes it practical for our clients is that it is designed around the way distribution businesses actually work: lot tracking, multi-location inventory, landed costs, and real-time visibility into what is moving and what is not. It is not an enterprise system, and it is not trying to be. It sits in a sensible range for companies that have 10 to 100 employees and need more control than QuickBooks can give them.
Is Spire a good replacement for BusinessVision?
For most of our clients who have been on BusinessVision, yes. The workflow logic is familiar enough that the transition is not as jarring as moving to a completely different system. Spire handles the core functions BusinessVision users rely on: order entry, inventory, AR/AP, and financials. The areas where Spire typically improves on BusinessVision are reporting flexibility, inventory detail, and the ability to integrate with other tools. That said, every migration depends on how the current system has been set up and what the company actually uses. We do a discovery conversation before recommending anything.
How long does a Spire implementation take?
For most of our clients, a standard Spire implementation takes between two and four months from kick-off to go-live. That range covers data migration, configuration, testing, and training. Complexity varies depending on how many locations are involved, whether there are integrations with other systems, and how clean the existing data is. Companies with straightforward operations and organized historical data tend to move faster. We have seen implementations take longer when there are unresolved business process questions that need to be sorted out before the software can be configured correctly. We are honest about that up front.
What does Spire cost?
Spire pricing depends on the number of users and which modules the business needs. Spire is available to buy or rent, and we recommend the annual software assurance plans for those that purchase their software. For a small company with a handful of users, the total investment in year one (software plus implementation) is typically in the range of $15,000 to $40,000, though that varies considerably based on scope. We do not publish exact pricing because it depends on specifics, but we are straightforward in early conversations about what to expect. The goal is to make sure clients are making a decision with a clear picture of what they are committing to.
What industries is Spire best suited for?
Spire was built for distribution and light manufacturing. It works well for companies that buy, sell, and track physical goods: food and beverage distributors, industrial suppliers, pet food and animal feed companies, hardware and equipment distributors, and manufacturers with relatively straightforward production. It is particularly strong for businesses where lot tracking, traceability, and inventory accuracy are critical. If a company is primarily service-based or needs complex project accounting, it is probably not the right fit, and we will say so.
What is Adagio, and how does it differ from Spire?
Adagio Accounting is a modular accounting platform, also well-suited to small and mid-sized businesses. Where Spire is a more integrated, all-in-one business management system, Adagio is built around discrete accounting modules that companies can adopt individually. That makes it a good fit for organizations that want strong financial controls and reporting without necessarily needing full inventory or order management functionality. We support both platforms, and the right choice depends on what the business actually needs. Some of our clients use Adagio for financials alongside other tools for operations. Others have moved from Adagio to Spire as their inventory requirements grew.
How do I know if my business is ready to move off its current accounting software?
The clearest signal is when the workarounds start costing more than the software saves. We see this most often as a pile of spreadsheets that someone has to manually reconcile, inventory counts that do not match what the system says, month-end close taking a week or more, or staff duplicating data entry across two systems. If a business has grown past about five or six people in the office and is still running on QuickBooks, there is usually a point where the limitations start showing up in daily operations. We offer an initial conversation at no cost to talk through what is actually happening in the business. That tends to clarify pretty quickly whether a change makes sense.
